Rare/genetic diseases

Living with a rare condition or cancer is often psychologically and emotionally challenging for both individuals and their families or supporters. It often involves difficult feelings about loss, anxiety/low mood , how you feel about yourself , your relationships and the future. Diagnosis of a genetic condition can often impact family relationships and longer -term life choices around work-life balance, future aspirations and personal identity.

Having a confidential, reliable space with a trained and experienced professional to talk through difficult thoughts and feelings can help explore:

• the emotional impact of diagnosis
• the impact on life choices (eg employment, fertility)
• relationships between partners and in the family
• the impact on children
• worries about the future, death or dying
• managing unpleasant symptoms or side effects
• fears about (or impact of) treatment, tests or surgery
• working with your care team

As well as being Director of Counselling Services for UK patient charities AMEND and NET Patient Foundation, I also offer private national and international consultations via Zoom, Facetime or WhatsApp to both individuals, couples and other health care professionals living or working with conditions such as:

• Neuroendocrine cancer/tumours
• SDH 1 and 2
• Multiple Endocrine neoplasia
• Medullary thyroid cancer
• Adrenocortical cancer
• Phaechromocytoma/paraganglioma

Plus Other rare diseases and cancers, and genetically inherited conditions.

I also offer private face-to-face consultations at my private practice in Royston, Hertfordshire UK.
