Consultancy and Training

I practice face-to-face in St Albans (UK) and via zoom/skype across Europe as a psychotherapist, consultant and supervisor with teams, couples and individuals. I am also a senior lecturer and examiner for several psychotherapy/counselling training organisations. I have a keen interest in facilitating support for ‘hard to reach’ patient groups including peer support, and using virtual technologies and social media platforms.

I now specialise primarily in the psychological impact of cancer and rare diseases, including genetic conditions. Having set up specialist Counselling Services for 2 rare disease charities AMEND and NPF, I am now the directorial lead for these using remote and face-to-face technologies, and introducing an innovative and integrated counselling approach to ‘Living With’ cancer and chronic related conditions.

Working with NPF and AMEND, we have developed an innovative psychotherapeutic self-referral Counselling Service integrating techniques from attachment theory, psychodynamic counselling and Mindfulness-based CBT , providing specialist therapeutic input to a diverse patient and carer population via telephone, skype and face-to-face.

I speak regularly at UK and European conferences, and run workshops and training days for health care professionals and patient groups. I consult to teams and specialist patient groups on a range of issues such as:

  • Setting up specialist psychological support services
  • Therapy and technology: impact on practitioner and patient
  • Looking after yourself: the impact of patient distress on health care professionals
  • The psychological impact of rare conditions
  • Breaking bad news
  • Illness and young people
  • Dealing with diagnosis
